Hello! Happy 2017 to you, lovely readers! I’ve been neglecting this blog BUT (if you’ve been following me on Instagram) you’ll know that I’ve actually been quite busy MAKING!
Wow, have I ever been neglecting this blog… Hopefully you’re following me on Instagram because that seems like all I manage to have time to update these days…
I’ve been trying to sew as much as I can, but my free time is short. Working outside the home part-time, as well as being a full-time mommy pretty much consumes all my waking hours. That said, I did manage to sew winter coats for both kids back in December.
Autumn is beginning to set in here in Sea-to-Sky Country. Leaves are changing colour, snow is dusting the tops of the mountains around town, and there is a definite chill in the air. So far we’ve been pretty lucky and have been enjoying more sunny days than normal for this time of year. That said, I know that the winter rains (and snow?!!) are not far away.
I’ve never really been a huge fan of blouses (on me). But I love them on other people. A few months ago, I became obsessed with the Grainline Archer blouse and all the super cool versions popping up in the blogosphere. Particularly my favourite “cool mom” Vivat Veritas, and her stellar versions here, here and here.
I was seriously *this close* to buying the Grainline Archer, when I turned to the Sewaholic Granville blouse after getting an email notification from the company about a sale on their patterns to celebrate their anniversary. I browsed other sewists’ versions online and realized that I preferred the princess seams on the back of the Granville to get a more curve-hugging fit. Plus I’m all about supporting local businesses. Sewaholic is based out of Vancouver BC, and I live in a suburb of Vancouver…
Summer is slowly winding down here in Sea to Sky country; the days are getting shorter, nights are cool and crisp, gardens are bursting with produce, everyone’s lawn is dead because of water restrictions… but the days are thankfully still quite warm and sunny. We’ve been getting a lot of use out of our kiddie pool in the backyard for beating the heat. Our Little Dude is still napping twice a day so we don’t often get out to the local lakes (or ocean!) that often, so we typically head down to the creek near our house or else pop out to the backyard.
It feels like I’m constantly washing swimsuits, so I decided to make another one for my Little Miss. She is OBSESSED with dresses and skirts at the moment, and pretty much everything MUST be pink. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pink swimsuit fabric in my stash. I had just enough Girl Charlee fabric left over from my Drape Drape No 6 dress to eke out this tankini/skirt combo for Little Miss. The self-drafted peplum skirt makes it acceptable LM attire ha ha ha.
I did it! I made another item from my ever-changing “To Sew” list! It has been SOOOOO crazy hot here this summer, and I am definitely lacking in the sundress department. Luckily now I have this super comfy dress to wear…. Holla!!!
Ohhhhhhh mannnnnn…. I CANNOT believe an entire year has gone by already! Our little guy is turning one at the end of the month. In all likelihood, he is our last baby (but hey, never say never), so it’s a bit sad for me. That said, his little personality is really starting to shine. He’s pretty spunky and loud, and he tries to keep up with his sassy spitfire of an older sister hahaha.
