I thought I’d take a quick minute and blog about a dress I posted on Instagram the other day. It’s the No. 6 Low Back Drape Drape Dress (phew, that’s a mouthful!) from Drape Drape Vol. 1.
Originally I didn’t think too much of this dress. Yeah it was kind of cute, but not really on my To Sew list. But it got a lot of love from my Instagram followers, so I decided to side with the masses. And guess what? I love it!
Despite my measurements placing me at an XL, I decided to sew this up in a Small-Medium. Why? Well, it’s a loose fitting garment, made from stretchy fabric. And I like my clothes to be fairly fitted. Loose, boxy stuff just doesn’t work on me. I’m glad I trusted my gut because this turned out great.
Initially I was concerned about the wide fit at the shoulders. If I bent down to pick anything up, the dress would shimmy down my shoulders and fall off. A wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. So I added a skinny strap along the upper back to keep the straps (and the dress!) in place. Et voila! Solved the problem, plus added a little detail that I adore. Now I just need to get some cool bras with interesting backs to show off.
Happy Sunday everyone!
